Easy Felt Christmas Tree Decoration
Little kids love making festive crafts during the Christmas season, so we’re always looking for new crafts that are so much fun. But we also like crafts that are easy enough for little hands. When I was at the local dollar store (Dollar Tree) this year, I found this felt tree that already comes with everything you need.
DIY Felt Christmas Tree Pattern
This fun craft is also easy enough to make yourself if you don’t have a Dollar Tree nearby. You’ll just need red, white, and green felt along with some fabric scissors. Then, cut out a tree shape based on the one you see here. Lastly, cut out some strips of garland and small round shapes for ornaments.
You can find felt and scissors at any craft or fabric store. Alternatively, you can do this same easy craft with foam sheets instead of felt if that’s easier.
Christmas Craft for Fine Motor Skills
This Christmas tree craft is a perfect project to practice fine motor skills for young children! Putting on the small felt ornaments and organizing all little their pieces works the small muscles of their hands and fingers while building hand-eye coordination.
Felt Tree in Three Easy Steps
The great thing about this felt craft is that its super easy to make, but young kids still have a fun time decorating their own Christmas tree. Depending on how old your child is and what type of glue you use, kids will need a little help completing the project. Otherwise, let them go wild with their creativity.
1. Decorate the Tree
First, let your child put the ornament shapes and felt pieces on the Christmas tree however they like. My grandson kept rearranging them, so give them some time to just play around.
2. Grab the Glue
Next, You’ll need either hot glue, tacky glue, or fabric glue. We chose to use fabric glue which worked out well because my grandson could help use put the glue on the tree. If you’re using hot glue, make sure you do the glueing so no one gets burned.
A great way to get them involved is to put some tacky or fabric glue on a paper plate. Then, have your child dab the glue onto the felt shapes using a Q-tip.
3. Let It Dry
Lastly, let it dry. If you’re using a hot glue gun, this step is relatively short. But tacky or fabric glue takes much longer to dry. Make sure you give your project lots of time to dry because the felt can easily come apart if it’s not dry.
Have Fun Making Your Holiday Decor
Making your own Christmas decorations with your kids is a fun way to get them involved in the holiday and spend quality time together! Even the littlest toddler will get into the holiday season more if you include them. But don’t get too stressed if the crafts don’t come out perfect!
