Easy Christmas Wreath Craft for Fine Motor Skills
This Christmas time, try out super easy pipe cleaner wreaths that are a great way to build fine motor skills! Those little hands will be having so much fun and also building hand-eye coordination at the same time. Try this easy craft that takes very little supplies, too.
Fun Fine Motor Activities
For parents and teachers, we know it can feel overwhelming to come up with new and fun activities and crafts for young children. It does for us, too. So we like to keep things simple, especially around Christmas when there’s so much going on.
We started doing this fun craft as a way to get more fine motor practice in for my son. Fine motor skills are about building up the strength and coordination of the small muscles of the hand and fingers. Lots of crafts with small pieces help with just that!
How to Meet Fine Motor Goals for Kids
Hearing all the fine motor goals we are supposed to be keeping track of can feel like too much. We made an easy-to-follow list here, but the best thing you can do is a few of these fun activities every so often.
Remember, every child is different and moves at their own pace. They also have different interests, so choose activities they actually enjoy doing. You’ll be able to tell when your child is engaged, and you shouldn’t have to force anything.
Easy Christmas Fine Motor Activities
During the holiday time, we have enough on our plates as parents and teachers. But if you are looking for a few easy activities and crafts, those are a great way to help fine motor skills. And we have a whole list here!
Some of our favorite activities include an easy, dollar store sensory bin and some fun Christmas play dough. We also love to make different kinds of Christmas trees to decorate the house and our own ornaments!
Pipe Cleaner Christmas Wreaths
Now that my son is three and old enough to do most activities like this on his own, he really loves all the Christmas ones! And he also loves beads. So this Christmas, we broke out the beads and the pipe cleaners.
Supplies Needed for this Craft
The best part about this easy craft is that it only takes two things: pipe cleaners and beads. We ended up using red and green pipe cleaners with green beads. You can also add some red or white beads on your wreath.
We found all of our supplies at the local dollar store, but you can find these on Amazon or any craft store. The Dollar Tree has a ton of great Christmas craft supplies if you’re looking.
Starting Your Christmas Craft
To begin this craft, cut the pipe cleaner to your desired length. Then, your child can start stringing green (and red and white) beads onto the pipe cleaner. Leave a little room at the end to bend the two ends together at the end.
This wreath really has no pattern, and so it’s a creative way for your child to make a work of art. Once your child is almost at the end, twist the two ends of the pipe cleaner together.
Lastly, I helped my son bend part of a red pipe cleaner into a bow shape. With a tiny piece of extra red pipe cleaner, we fastened the bow onto the top of the wreath. If you don’t have red pipe cleaners, you can also use ribbon for a bow.
Easy Homemade Christmas Ornaments
Once my son finished his wreaths, he couldn’t wait to put them on the Christmas tree. This fine motor activity is a wonderful way to make ornaments with your kids!
You can also use the wreaths for decorations elsewhere, or just let your child play with them!
