Easy Hop on Pop Activities for Early Childhood
Looking for fun activities to go along with Dr. Seuss’ book Hop on Pop for young children? This book is a great way to introduce your own kids to the wonderful Dr. Seuss books! This classic book isn’t as popular as some of his other books, but it’s still great for young learners.
We usually break out our Hop of Pop activities around Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2nd. But you can do these anytime of year, especially if your child likes this book as much as my grandson.

First, Read the Book
As with all our Dr. Seuss activities, start by reading the book. Hop on Pop is a great book for simple rhyming words and so many silly Dr. Seuss characters. There’s also a lot of sight words for young readers.
Fun Ways to Read
One way to make reading a little more fun is by following along with the characters. We make these Dr. Seuss characters to go along with the book by cutting out the characters and taping them on Jenga pieces. You can get the free printable here.
If you’re looking for more fun ways to read the book, try watching a video of it being read. Watching the book presents it in a new way and helps kids understand it even more. We like this one.

Fun Gross Motor Activity
While you’re reading this book, it’s the perfect time to practice some gross motor learning. And the best part about this gross motor activity is that you can make it as simple or elaborate as you want. The point of this is just to get them up and moving, so you can have them follow right along with the actions in the book or make up your own!

Now, lead your child by telling them to hop on one foot, both feet, and just the other foot. Next, try other funny rhymes like “Jump on a Bump”, “Crawl to the Wall”, or “Spin with a Grin”. You could also call out commands to act as some of the animals that show up in the book.
For a little fun, tape a picture of Pop from the book on ground for them to hop on!
Bubble Wrap Pop
One way to modify the gross motor activity is by putting bubble wrap on the ground! Little kids have so much fun hopping on the bubbles, and it helps them with coordination, balance, and strengthening muscles.
Dr. Seuss Hop on Pop Craft
This is a pretty simple that we do to go along with this book. All you need is this free printable, a piece of construction paper, glue, and some stickers! We decided to use simple shape stickers to practice our shapes, but there’s lots of cute Dr. Seuss stickers you can find online.

First, cut out (or have your kids help you cut out) the Pop from the printable. Next, glue in onto the paper towards the bottom, under the words “What’s on Pop?”. Then, add your stickers on top of Pop!
Stickers are a great way to practice fine motor skills while having a lot of fun!

Even More Dr. Seuss Fun
If you’re looking for even more Dr Seuss fun, we have a whole week dedicated to this author and his popular books. We even put together our favorite art, science, and math activities you can do with any of the books, add to lesson plans, or all together!
