Easy Apple Tree Craft for Young Kids and Toddlers
Try our easy apple tree craft for kids of all ages that works perfect for the fall season! You can also use it as a back to school craft or as an addition to apple activities like going to the apple orchard.

Apple Tree Kids Craft
This easy apple craft is perfect if you’re looking for a simple craft to do with young kids. We did it with my three year old and one and a half year old. Once we’re at the changing seasons in the fall, we always love to do some kind of apple craft.

Fall Crafts
The perfect time of year for this and any apple craft is the beginning of fall as the season starts to change. It also works well as a back to school craft because apples are a common theme around that time of year. Either way, this craft is easy to fit in and really doesn’t take a long time.
Fine Motor Fun
This fun apple tree craft does include paint (which you could replace with construction paper if you really want to) which can be intimidating with little kids. But that’s really the fun part for them, and it’s great for their fine motor development! Painting, using scissors, using a glue stick, and placing the small pieces are all great ways to help young kids.

Step-By-Step Apple Tree Craft
This is one of our favorite fall crafts, but works well anytime you’re looking for an easy apple craft. It’s only a few simple steps, and kids of all ages love it!
Craft Supplies You’ll Need
Here’s everything we used for our simple apple craft:
- Red paint (washable)
- White paper
- Brown, yellow, and green construction paper
- Scissors
- Gluestick
You can also use brown paint for the tree trunk and green paint for leaves if you’d rather do that than use the construction paper. Younger kids usually love the painting part of this craft, so this may be the better option for you and your kids.
1. Paint Your Paper
First, your child will paint the white paper with the red paint. This is usually the best part for little kids, and they can also use brown paint for the tree trunk and green paint for leaves if you’d rather do that than use the construction paper. Either way, painting is a fun way to get in some messy play.

This is a good time to try one of our methods of painting for fine motor skills. These are all so much fun for little kids and easy enough for toddlers. Try two of our favorites- painting with cotton balls and painting with objects besides a paintbrush.
2. Cut Out the Shapes
Once the paint is dry, you or your child will cut out the red apples. Next, cut out one thicker, brown rectangle for the tree trunk and a few thinner, brown rectangles for the branches. Then, cut out green snippets for the leaves.
Using scissors is great for little hands to build strength of the fine motor muscles and hand-eye coordination. Younger children can at least cut out the green snippets, but it’s all good practice for them. But if you’re nervous about young children using the scissors, read all our tips here.

3. Glue Your Tree Together

Lastly, your child will use the glue stick to make the apple tree on the yellow construction paper. We have found it easiest to glue on the tree trunk, the branches, the leaves, and, then, the apples, in that order. Let your child glue and stick on the pieces without worrying too much how ‘right’ it looks.

Have Fun With Your Apple Craft Project
Remember, crafts with young kids are not about what the final product looks like. The point of doing crafts is the fun and benefits that come from the process. It’s also about spending time together, so enjoy this time with your kids!
