All About “A”
Time for your child to practice the first letter of the alphabet? We have five of our favorite letter A art projects for young children that are super easy to complete. These projects are a great idea to complete together at home or in a classroom!
We love doing fun things for the entire alphabet, but this week in preschool is all about A! So check out our letter of the week activities!
Fingerprint Ant Canvas
This super simple ant craft is a great way to incorporate fine motor skills with an art project all about the letter A. You can easily complete this craft with toddlers, preschoolers, or kindergarten students. You’ll need a tiny canvas, a black marker, and colored and black paint.
First, have your child paint the background of the canvas. Don’t worry if the paint is not even or they only want to use their hands, you can smooth it out at the end. And sensory activities like finger painting are a fun way to add in messy play to art.
Then, once the background paint is dry, help them make little ants using three fingerprints. You can also add a sun with yellow paint if you want. Lastly, use the black marker to add legs and antenna.
Ant Hill Craft
Ant crafts are great ‘A’ craft projects because their easy for children to recognize as well as easy to make! The word ‘ant’ is also easy for practicing ‘A’ letter sounds and letter recognition. Try another one of our favorite ant crafts!
For this easy craft, you’ll need a piece of paper, a brown coffee filter, black paint, and a black marker. First, fold the coffee filter into a triangle shape. Then, cut off the top point of the triangle to make the ant hill.
Next, your child can use their fingers to make ants all over the ant hill with the black paint. Once, the paint dries, draw on legs and antenna with the black marker.
Here’s the printable template we used as the background. But you can also just use a regular piece of paper. While we make this one, we like to listen to the song “The Ants Go Marching” or watch a fun video of it online.
Construction Paper Alligator
Young children love animal crafts, especially during the preschool years, so a lot of our letter of the week crafts are animals. Just like this fun alligator made out of construction paper!
All you need is construction paper in different colors including blue, green, and white at least. Cut the green paper into two long rectangles and one short rectangle. Then, cut some teeth out of the white paper.
This fun craft is a great time to practice using scissors for preschool children. Check out our complete guide to using scissors with children here. Then, they can also practice using their glue sticks, too (another great activity for fine motor skills!).
This is the alligator craft template for ours, but your child’s doesn’t need to look exactly the same. Always leave some room for them to be creative! We love preschool crafts that are easy but still fun!
