43 Valentine’s Day Books for Toddlers, Preschool, and Up
There’s tons of great Valentine’s Day books our there for toddlers through kindergarteners that we love! And we found a lot of these books at our local library. So, here’s our full list of favorite Valentine books for little kids in no particular order.
1. My Valentine Box by Roger Priddy
If you’re looking for a super cute board book about Valentine’s Day, this one is awesome! It’s a fun eye spy book using cute little Valentine’s Day cards. This is a good option for children three and under.

2. You’re My Little Cuddle Bug by Nicola Edwards
My grandchildren were gifted this book last Valentines Day, and this sweet board book another great way to start reading about Valentine’s Day with very young children. They love the colorful illustrations. You can really read it at any time, but it’s especially nice for Valentine’s day.

3. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney
This simple book is great for young kids who may not understand the concept of Valentine’s Day, yet. But they can start understanding love, especially from parents or loved ones. This is also a great option as a gift for young kids on Valentine’s Day.

4. Lilly’s Chocolate Heart by Kevin Henkes
If your kids like Lilly in her other books, this is a cute board book about Lilly on Valentine’s Day! It’s a great option for littler kids on Valentine’s Day.

5. Love from the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
We love the Eric Carle books because of the fun illustrations, and this is a cute little story for Valentine’s Day.

6. Love Monster by Rachel Bright
Here’s another good board book for younger children. This cute little monster is a favorite with my two year old granddaughter.

7. Llama Llama I Love You by Anna Dewdney
Another cute book about our favorite little llama, this one just comes in a board book. And the simple text is great for even the littlest kids.

8. Love from the Crayons by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers
We love the book The Day the Crayons Quit, and they recently made this cute little Valentine’s Day book with the crayons. It’s much shorter than the original books, so it really works for any age child.

9. Construction Site: You’re Just Right by Sherri Dusky Rinker
This is one series that my grandson cannot get enough of, along with most boys his age. This is another cute story about the construction vehicles, but this one is even easier for little kids because it’s also a flap book.

10. There was an Old Lady of Swallowed a Rose! by Lucille Colandro
Lucille Colandro is a great children’s author, and we love reading all her humerous books about the old lady swallowing things. My three year old grandson can’t stop laughing by the end of all her books.

11. How to Catch a Loveosaurus by Alice Walstead and Andy Elkerton
Help catch this tricky dinosaur on Valentine’s Day! Here’s another funny option if your kids enjoy the humerous books more.

12. Little Blue Truck’s Valentine by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry
We love all the Little Blue Truck picture books, and the Valentine’s Day one is such a sweet book. If your kids like any of the other ones, they’ll like this one too with all the familiar characters.

13. Clifford’s First Valentine’s Day by Norman Bridwell
Clifford is another one of our favorite characters to read about! His books are always fun, but also a sweet story to read for little kids.

14. Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Love by Kimberly and James Dean
Pete the cat is back for Valentine’s Day in this unique book about love. If your kids like Pete the cat and his silliness, this is a good option for the holiday.

15. Happy Valentine’s Day Curious George
If your kids also love this silly monkey or watch his TV show, this is a really cute Valentine’s Day option. Curious George always gets some laughs from my grandkids, and this book is no expectation. And this one even comes as a flap book!

16. Mouse’s First Valentine by Lauren Thompson
This is a lesser known series about a cute little mouse. Even if you don’t like mice (like me), it’s still a delightful story we read most years around this time.

17. Happy Valentine’s Day Mouse! by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond
This is another little mouse that we love reading about. For someone who hates all rodents, I sure have a lot of Valentine mice books. But it’s because they’re so good!

18. In My Heart by Jo Witek
Here’s a cute book all about feelings. On Valentine’s Day, we talk a lot about feelings, but young kids can have a hard time understanding or explaining emotions. This book explains them in a simple, fun way.

19. The Best Thing About Valentines by Eleanor Hudson
If you’re looking for a simple book that talks all about the valentines you can make, this one is a good pick. Young readers can enjoy this one because it makes Valentine’s Day easier to understand.

20. Froggy’s First Kiss by Jonathan London
The froggy series are fantastic books that little kids love to read. Froggy is always up to something funny, and he is again this Valentine’s Day.

21. Grumpy Monkey Valentine Gross-Out by Suzanne Lang
Here’s a funny valentine book that’s a little different from the rest on the list. Some little kids really love the Grumpy Monkey series, so, if your child is one of them, try this fun valentines book.

22. Happy Valentine’s Day, Little Critter by Mercer Mayer
Another great series for kids this age is the Little Critters books. They’re a classic for a reason, and the Valentine’s Day one is a cute read to add to your list.

23. The Berenstain Bears’ Valentine Party by Jan and Mike Berenstain
Little kids love the books about Valentine’s Day parties, especially if they’re getting a party this year in school. This is a fun one for preschool and kindergartners.

There’s tons of good options from this book series if it’s one you enjoy reading with your kids.

Another cute book from the Berestain bears about loving your family. This is a good one to read at home with your kids.

26. The Berenstain Bears’ Funny Valentine by Jan and Stan Berenstain
There’s quite a few valentine books from the Berenstain bears, and they’re all pretty good. So here’s another good option!

27. Amelia Bedelia’s First Valentine by Herman Parish
There’s a whole series on Amelia Bedelia as a kid, and this one is about her Valentine’s Day party at school along with the gift of a special valentine.

28. Turkey’s Valentine Surprise by Wendi Silvano
This is the adorable story of a turkey who wants to make a special valentine for everyone in the barnyard. He tries all kinds of different ways to surprise his friends in this funny story.

29. The Story of Saint Valentine by Laura Wagner
If you’re looking for a picture book about the history of the saint who started Valentine’s Day, try this one! It’s simple enough for young children to understand and explains everything well.

30. A Charlie Brown Valentine by Charles M. Schulz
The Peanuts series is another classic that has a lot of great holiday books. We like to read about all the characters, especially Snoopy, and their special valentines.

31. Cupig by Claire Tattersfield
Here’s a newer Valentine’s book that’s pretty humorous. It’s a great book for kids who love funny, non-traditional stories of Valentine’s Day.

32. The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond
This is an easy read but a great story for Valentine’s Day. It’s about a little girl, Cornelia Augusta, who gets caught in the rain-that’s actually hearts!

33. Crankenstein Valentine by Samantha Berger
Try out this one about the grumpy little boy who tries to turn Valentine’s Day a little sweeter!

34. The Biggest Valentine Ever by Steven Kroll
Read about two little valentine mice who end up making the biggest valentine ever! It’s a super cute book about friends on Valentine’s Day.

35. The Night Before Valentine’s Day by Natasha Wing
Come along the night before Valentine’s Day as everyone prepares their treats and decorations for the big day. This book is good in the days leading up to the holiday to give your kids tons of Valentine’s Day ideas.

36. Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli
Read along as Mr. Hatch tries to find his secret admirer in this sweet book about Valentine’s Day. It may be an older book, but it’s still a great option.

This is a good book about picking out the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for someone. Little kids love Mr. Goat’s crazy choices in this funny story.

If any of your kids love dinosaurs like my grandson does, this is the perfect Valentine’s Day book.

41. The Littlest Valentine by Brandi Dougherty
Read all about Emma, the littlest member of the Valentine family. She tries to help her family on Valentine’s Day in this sweet book.

42. Ollie’s Valentine by Olivia Dunrea
Ollie is the cutest little duck who’s looking for a valentine. Try this book out for little readers who love animals or the Ollie series.

43. I Love You, Spot by Eric Hill
Spot is one of our favorite characters to read about, and this board book makes such a special gift. It’s even the shape of a heart!

Valentine’s Day Book List
