Here’s a fun way to make an easy snowman craft with even young kids! Our cotton ball snowman craft is a fun way start crafting this winter time! There’s many different versions of the winter snowman craft, but we like to use cotton balls because they’re cheap to buy and kids love them!

Easy Winter Crafts

There’s tons and tons of Christmas crafts out there, but what about the rest of winter? This snowman is a great way to keep that crafting going after the holiday season is over. And this cute snowman craft is perfect for kids of all ages, including small toddlers who still want to be included in the crafting.

Snowman Fun

I like to break out this fun craft after the first big snow or after we get to make our own snowmen outside. But this will work anytime during the winter season. You could pair it with other winter themed crafts or make a whole snowman theme.

Snowmen for Fine Motor Skills

One of the best parts about this simple snowman craft is that it’s a great way to build fine motor skills while having fun! My three-year-old grandson loved putting all the cotton balls on himself which was great for the small muscles of his fingers and hands as well as his hand-eye coordination.

Step-by-Step Cotton Ball Snowman Craft

Here’s everything we used for our snowman art:

  • Cotton Balls
  • Mini pom poms
  • One piece of white construction paper
  • One piece of black construction paper
  • Glue

We used the black piece of construction paper for the background to make the snowman stand out, but you can use any color for the background.

1. Cut Out the Snowman Shape

First, you’ll need to draw a snowman’s body (three circle shapes) or print out our free snowman template here. Make sure the snowman outline is on white paper.

Next, you’ll cut out the snowman shape. This is a wonderful way to get practice with scissors for both older and younger kids! But if you’re nervous about young kids with scissors, check out all our tips and why it’s so beneficial here.

2. Glue the Snowman to the Background

Next, glue the snowman outline to the piece of paper you’re using for the background. Again, you can use any colored that you’d like.

3. Add the Cotton Balls

Next, your kids can put down some glue followed by cotton balls. The great thing is that the cotton balls don’t have to be in a certain spot or pattern, so even little kids can do this step themselves. Just remind them to fill up the entire snowman outline.

4. Make the Snowman’s Face

Lastly, we glued on some mini pom poms for the snowman’s face. These were pom poms that we had leftover from Christmas crafts, so you can use any color. Or you can cut out small circles on paper if that works better.

Alternatively, you can use googly eyes and/or buttons on your own snowman. Whatever you have or can easily find!

5. Optional: Add a Few Details

There’s lots of different ways you can add more detail to your snowman craft. Try adding snowflake stickers to the background or cutting out a hat shape for the snowman’s head. Whatever your child thinks their snowman needs!

Have Fun Making this Great Snowman Craft

Remember, this fun winter craft is about the process of making your snowman not what the final product looks like. We hope you have so much fun making them together! This is perfect to break out on a cold winter day when you’re all stuck inside together.

Another Fun Cotton Ball Art Project

If you have a lot of cotton balls left over, try this fun cotton ball painting activity. Using the cotton balls to paint is one of my grandson’s favorite activities, and it’s one of the best ways to help little hands work on fine motor skills.
