Stained Glass Cross Craft for Kids of All Ages

You won’t need a trip to Hobby Lobby (unless you want one!) — most of these simple supplies are things you already have:

  • White construction paper or card stock
  • Brightly colored construction paper in different shades
  • Glue stick or white glue
  • Scissors
  • Cross template, cross outline, or your own cross pattern
  • Optional: large background paper for mounting
colored paper

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Snip, Snip, Snip!
Cut small paper strips or snips of colored paper. This part is a great craft activity for younger children — cutting different shapes at different angles strengthens their fine motor skills and builds coordination. You can read all about it here.

Step 2: Cut Out the Cross Shape
Use a cross template, cross pattern, or simply draw your own cross outline on white card stock or construction paper. Carefully cut out the cross shape — older kids can do this step on their own, while younger ones might need a little help. I have a free PDF download of a cross outline here.

Step 3: Time to Glue!
Use your glue stick (or white glue) to attach the colorful paper snips all over the cross shape. Encourage kids to fill the whole surface, overlapping colors if they’d like. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s exploration, creativity, and much fun!

Step 4: Mount Your Masterpiece
Once the cross is dry, glue it onto a larger piece of contrasting paper. This gives it a framed look and makes it sturdier for hanging or displaying on a bulletin board. Then, you can add a bible verse at the bottom if you want, too.

Process Art, Not Perfection

This cross craft idea is what we call process art — meaning the joy is in the making, not the outcome. The pieces don’t have to be perfect or arranged in a specific direction. Each child’s Easter cross craft will look beautifully unique, reflecting their own creativity and age level. Whether your child uses bright colors, different shapes, or keeps it simple, it’s the process that matters most.

A Great Way to Celebrate Easter

This fun craft works for every age group — younger children love the cutting and gluing, while older kids can design intricate patterns and experiment with different colors and layouts. Display them in the classroom, at home, or on a Sunday school wall for a stunning, faith-filled display of color and creativity.

This cross Easter craft is an original content idea that’s simple, meaningful, and joyful — a reminder that even little crafts can make a big impact.
